Given the number of people living on this planet at a given time, it is safe to say that just about every modern building anyone walks into will have at least one bathroom, and inside that bathroom will be a toilet. There are many makes and models, colors and sizes, and when traveling to other countries it is also entirely possible to see toilets that are mostly unrecognizable as such.
When it is time to install a new toilet, there are many things to consider: first of all, in houses that have already been built, the position of the toilet has already been decided, and the new toilet needs to be placed in such a way as to line up with the existing plumbing. Depending on how the plumbing is handled, certain sized commodes are ruled out, as well as more exotic toilet designs found in other countries -- the squatter toilet is an example of this: as the name implies, there is no seat to sit on, as it is a glorified hole in the ground.
For those who are fond of pampering themselves and have the extra money to spend on the bathroom, there are now several technologically- based functions that can be added to a specially designed toilet. These functions include heated seats; the ability to monitor certain things such as blood sugar, blood pressure, and temperature; and, of course, there are various toilet paper alternatives, known to some as”bottom washers." Thankfully, someone also created a blow dryer, as well. The one downside: most of these products are found solely in Japan.
Whether in Japan or England or America -- or anywhere else for that matter -- and regardless of the size of your bathroom, there are countless types of toilet out there to perfectly fit your needs. The prices can vary greatly, as many things do these days, so if you want your toilet to keep track of your blood pressure, be prepared to spend well over a few thousand dollars. Otherwise, if you are looking for a utilitarian, no-nonsense toilet, it will be considerably less expensive.
