Showers

In almost every modern bathroom, it is a common occurrence to see some sort of shower, whether it is a stand-alone, attached to a tub of some sort, or built into a wall. If you are building or remodeling your house or for various reasons need to replace the tub or shower you have already, the options are numerous, depending on the needs of your household.

Sometimes Size Does Matter

The biggest difference between the types of showers available often come down to what kind of shower can fit where. For those with spacious bathrooms, or a new house that is being custom-built, just about any type of shower will fit, so the decision is left to aesthetics. For smaller bathrooms, or bathrooms in old houses with odd plumbing, the choice for a replacement shower can be trickier.

This Old House

For smaller bathrooms, it is sometimes the best idea to replace an old shower with the exact same model or a very similar one. Many houses already have shower baths, as older bathrooms are not generally large enough to hold both a shower and a separate bathtub. Corner showers and shower trays (also known as shower receptors) are also good choices. Both are placed -- as you might have guessed -- in a corner of the bathroom. Corner showers are often slightly larger than shower trays, and shower trays require some sort of separate enclosure.

Big and Beautiful

Larger bathrooms can fit just about any kind of shower, provided the plumbing is set up accordingly. So corner showers, trays, and combination shower baths are options, as well as walk-in showers. Walk-in showers are generally an enclosure set around a showerhead that does not require taking much of a step up to get into, if there is any step up at all. The enclosure itself can be any number of different sizes as well.

So regardless of the type of bathroom you may have and the size, the options are large and varied. Choosing the right shower can be easy once you narrow down the basic type, leaving only style and particular shower accessories to contend with.
